Meaning: A reduction in the size, extent or importance of something.

Synonyms: Abatement, decline, decrease, lessening,reduction.

Antonym: Expansion.

Usage:
1) The diminution of military troops will leave our country more vulnerable to invasion.
2) Because of the diminution of the gas prices, more people are hitting the highways this summer.
3) When the jobless rate decreases, there is usually a diminution in crime as well.
